NWRC Historical Images Collection---
Scope and Contents
Materials in this collection include photographs, negatives and slides. Most of the images were compiled by various NWRC Archivists over the years and are dated 1895 to 2002, with the bulk falling between 1950 and 1995. This collection consists of three record cartons and is divided into six series.
Series I contains images of wildlife, wildlife damage, and efforts to manage their damage. Animals featured in this series include birds, mammals such as bats, coyotes, bears, sheep, and rodents, as well as reptiles such as snakes and lizards. The majority of images in this series were taken in the 1960s.
Series II contains images of the various buildings occupied by the Center in Denver, Colorado, from the early twentieth century to its current location on Colorado State University’s Foothills Campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. Included are construction photos of buildings used by the Center at the Denver Federal Center and at the NWRC’s present location in Fort Collins. Also included are images of equipment used by the Center, as well as exhibits and displays.
Series III contains images of staff and field work conducted by the Bureau of Biological Survey (BBS) from 1895 to 1931. This series includes images of BBS efforts to manage predators such as coyotes, as well as images of the BBS’s ground squirrel campaigns during the early twentieth century.
Series IV contains images from the Center’s International Programs Research Unit dated 1961 to 1995. Images in this series feature staff based at the Center’s various international field stations, as well as projects the unit conducted to manage damage caused by birds, rodents, and insects.
Series V contains images of staff at work, as well as at conferences and special events. Most of the images in this series were taken between 1950 and 1995.
Series VI is arranged into two subseries. Subseries 01 contains images used in the Animal Damage Control (ADC) Program’s draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) issued in 1990. Subseries 02 contains images used in the Center’s Annual Reports from 1983 to 1986, as well as images used in a Center slide show from 1964.
