Biographical / Historical

Kandy Lynn Keacher was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 26, 1954. However, she grew up in Arkansas. Kandy attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville from 1972-1977. Immediately after graduating, she began working for a museum in Little Rock, AR, where she worked caring for reptiles at a museum. She then took the next decade off to care for her children before moving to Gainesville, FL, in the late 1980s. Kandy attended the Zoo Program at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, graduating in 1992. She began working for the University of Florida in 1992 caring for birds at the Gainesville Field Station under the direction of Kris Brugger. Kandy soon transitioned to working full-time for the NWRC as an Animal Care Biological Technician at the Gainesville Field Station. She remained in that role until her retirement from the Gainesville Field Station in August 2019.
