Biographical / Historical
Donald W. Hawthorne was born on February 14, 1942 in Lawton, Oklahoma and earned his B.S. in Wildlife Management from Oklahoma State University. Throughout Hawthorne's career in Wildlife Services, which began in 1965 as a District Supervisor Trainer in Snyder, Oklahoma, he held various supervisory positions including state director in several states and Associate Deputy Administer in Washington D.C. He retired in 1999 and volunteers with various religious and cultural boards in Oklahoma. Hawthorne married his wife Carolyn in 1962 and has three daughters.

Abstract
Don Hawthorne discusses his career in Wildlife Services, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). He reminisces about his experiences as a government trapper in predator control and research (primarily coyotes) and the different methods used including traps and aerial gunning. Hawthorne talks about his experiences as a supervisor and director in Wildlife Services in Utah, Oklahoma, and Washington D.C. including training, politics, and managing the controversy surrounding Wildlife Services.
