Biographical / Historical

Doreen Griffin was born in 1961 in Denver, Colorado. After graduating from Arvada West High School in 1979 she went to Metropolitan State College followed by University of Colorado at Denver, where she earned a degree in Geology. After working for the USGS, she got a position as a Physical Science Technician with the Denver Wildlife Research Center’s Analytical Chemistry section in 1988. She moved to Fort Collins to work for the newly named National Wildlife Research Center in Fort Collins in 1998. At this time, she became the NWRC Quality Control Specialist. Around 2010, she also began doing wildlife forensic testing for the NWRC Genetics Project. Throughout her career, Doreen played an instrumental role in the Center’s analytical chemistry method development. Doreen is married to her husband Troy and has two sons. She retired in March 2023 after over 35 years with the Center.
