Biographical / Historical

Buck Follis was born in Superior, Wisconsin on June 6, 1939. He began working for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in 1962 as an equipment operator and trapper. He worked as a fulltime trapper in the 1980s and then as a trapper for Wildlife Services beginning in 1990. Follis, an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and gardening as well as trapping, married his wife Shirley in 1957 and they had five children. Follis spent his life and his career in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Follis passed away in 2017.

Abstract

Buck Follis reminisces about his current and past work for Wildlife Services, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). He talks about his experiences as a government trapper in predator control and research (primarily wolves and bears) and the different methods used including traps, snares, and lures. Follis speaks of his experiences with animals, various Wildlife Services, and livestock protection.
