Biographical / Historical
Randal Scott Stahl was born in 1968 in Springfield, Illinois. He initially studied at Syracuse University in New York but moved around quite a bit while completing his undergraduate degrees in plant and soil science and computer science. He earned his master’s degree in plant physiology from Texas A and M and his Ph.D. in soil chemistry from the University of Maryland. After receiving his Ph.D., Randy worked for NASA where he evaluated plants as a potential component of life support subsystems for space habitation. After that Randy worked as an Assistant Professor at Texas A and M University and the University of Alaska. Randy joined the National Wildlife Research Center in 2000. During his nearly two decades with the Center, Randy contributed to a number of research projects. His collaborations led to approximately 40 research publications, 50 conference proceedings and 17 validated analytical methods. Randy was also instrumental in developing and maintaining the DRC-1339 take model as well as development of bio-assays to age wildlife species. Randy retired from the NWRC on May 31, 2019.
