Fagerstone, Kathleen A., 2015

Kathy Fagerstone was born on March 16, 1951 in Denver, Colorado. In 1971, during her college studies at Colorado State University, she received a summer position as a biological technician at the Denver Wildlife Research Center, becoming the first female technician at the Research Center. Two years later she became a physical science technician. In this position, she researched the food habits of prairie dogs, which became the topic of her thesis when she went to graduate school. She then went on to take part in research on small mammals including ground squirrels and black footed ferrets. The focus of her work shifted to chemical registrations after congress amended the pesticide registration provisions of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) in 1988. In addition to starting the strychnine and zinc phosphide consortia, Kathy was appointed leader of the Chemical Development and Registration section in 1990. She also played an integral role in getting Gonacon, a contraceptive immunovaccine for wildlife, resgistered with the EPA. In the last years of her career, she was the Technology Transfer Program manager.
