Biographical / Historical
Larry Clark was born in Pennsylvania and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. He earned degrees in biology from the University of Maryland (BS), University of Arizona (MS) and the University of Pennsylvania (PhD). Before joining the Denver Wildlife Research Center (predecessor to the NWRC) Clark worked as a research scientist at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, PA, from 1983-1990. From 1991-2005, Clark worked as a research scientist at the DWRC/NWRC in the Bird and Wildlife Disease Programs. In 1995, he became the first NWRC staff member based in Fort Collins, initiating research on brown treesnakes in the new facilities and helping to establish cooperative relationships with the Colorado State University community. Clark served as the Assistant Director of the NWRC from 2005-2008, and Director of the Center from 2008-2019. In 2013, Clark initiated the development of a technology transfer program, creating the Center’s first Office of Research and Technology Applications and Technology Transfer.
Clark received numerous honors and recognitions during his career with the Center. He received the Kerry-Manheimer Award for career achievements in the chemosensory sciences in 2013. In 2019, Clark received the Federal Laboratory Consortium’s Laboratory Director of the Year Award for technology transfer, as well as a Presidential Rank Award, the highest civilian honor for a federal senior executive. Clark was also involved in developing the USDA’s Scientific Integrity regulations and policy.
Clark retired from the National Wildlife Research Center in 2019, after nearly 30 years of service.

Abstract
Larry Clark began his career with the NWRC in 1991, where he worked as a research scientist in both the Bird and Wildlife Disease Programs. He served as the Assistant Director of the NWRC from 2005-2008, and Director of the Center from 2008-2019. Records in this collection include administrative records and research records pertaining to birds, brown treesnakes, and the development of predacides. Images of research activities and video interviews of Clark are also included in this collection.
