Scope and Contents
The Craig Ramey Records (NWRC 0054) consists of 6 boxes of records (dated 1970-2007) including administrative records, research studies on toxicants, publications authored by Ramey, images, and artifacts including telemetry equipment used in Ramey’s research studies. This collection also includes 7MG of digital files that were exported from 3 ½ inch floppy disks belonging to Ramey.

Biographical / Historical
Craig A. Ramey was born in Minnesota in 1946 but moved to Colorado at the age of five. He received his bachelor’s (1968), master’s (1971) and PhD (1973) in genetics, wildlife, and zoology from Colorado State University. In 1974, he began his career with the US Veterans Administration, where he held several positions including Director of the Cardiovascular Research Lab and Assistant Chief of staff for Research. Ramey then earned a master’s degree from Yale University in Hospital Administration in 1978 and subsequently became a Hospital Administration Specialist for the VA in Washington, D.C. In 1984, Ramey returned to Colorado and obtained a master’s degree in Education (1985) from CSU and taught gifted science students in the Greeley School District, and in the departments of biology at Colorado State University and the University of Northern Colorado.
Ramey began his career as a Research Wildlife Biologist with the Denver Wildlife Research Center in 1989, where he helped to develop and maintain a pesticide registration database for monitoring the progress of data collection for pesticide registration with the EPA. In 1993, he became leader of the Ecological Effects Unit where he investigated canine rabies, gas cartridges, and pesticide impacts on birds and skunks. Ramey retired from the Center in September 2017, after 28 years of service.

Abstract

He was also instrumental in setting up the Center’s Registration Unit, where he developed and maintained the pesticide registration database for monitoring the progress of data collection for pesticide registration with the EPA.

Processing Information
Records in Series IV: Digital Materials were exported from a box of 3 ½ inch floppy disks. Converted formats include Word and Text documents. Floppy disks are located in box 6 of this collection.
In addition to floppy disks, box 6 also contains telemetry equipment used in studies conducted by Ramey in the early 1990s.
