Biographical / Historical
Paul L. Hegdal received his BS and MS from Colorado State University. He began his career as a Wildlife Biologist with the Denver Wildlife Research Center in 1959. From 1963 to 1967, Hegdal was stationed at the Twin Falls, Idaho, Field Station, where he worked on projects to control damage caused by jackrabbits. He transferred back to the Wildlife Research Center in Denver in 1967 and in 1969 became the Section Chief of the Mammal Damage Control Unit, where he led research projects on the hazards of rodenticides to non-target species. During his career with the Center, Hegdal developed several wildlife damage control methods including the burrow-builder for pocket gopher control; transmitter attachments for several animal species; unique methods for capturing owls; and radiotracking systems for a large number of animals.
